Ellipse

For the millionth time I’ve passed your meridian,

Wondering just what it is that draws me in.

You’ve entombed me in your gravity,

An elliptical orbit that was never meant for me.

Pulling me in close before we spiral afar,

We repeat this cycle guided by our hearts.

Each time I’m swung around your mass

You draw me in closer, but it never lasts.

Ejected, reflected I deflect my feelings,

Unable to change so here I am left reeling.

Flung away with my sights set on oblivion,

Of course you find a way to draw me back in.

I almost believed we reached the day,

The system finally spiraled into dissarray.

Premonitions filling my heart with fear,

Turned ash in your soft, sweet atmosphere.

If I were to fall, would you have the words to say?

Would our entire solar system feel the decay?

A cataclysmic event blacking out the sun,

Apocalypse, all we’ve ever known undone?

Or would our bodies merge upon the impact,

A beautiful new world born from the abstract?

Reaching a final conflict of moon and star,

I find myself trapped between light and dark.

Would you say it too?

Would you say I love you?
